Sandeman, Porto “Founders Reserve” – a young classic port wine, named after the founder of George Sandeman. This port embodies the bicentennial of experience. The grapes for port Sandeman grown only along the Douro River. Here is a very favorable climate for aging varieties permitted for the production of port wine. The harvest begins in late September, and then the berries are processed in a modern plant for port according to the traditional method. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature. Then the wines are aged in oak barrels. Selected for the port “Founders Reserve” barrels are carefully analyzed, are removed from the sediment and adjusted at the discretion of the tasters. The result is a blend of strictly selected wines usually 3-5 years of aging. The final mixture was filtered and stabilized before bottling. Bottles should be stored in an upright position, protected from light and humidity, at a constant temperature of 16-18ºC. Port ready to use and does not require decanting. After opening, port should be used within 4 weeks.

In 1790, George Sandeman, an ambitious young Scotsman from Perth, founded a wine business in London. He bought his first wine cellar and started trading in Porto and Sherry. In the early 1800s Sandeman wines were sent to Europe, North and South America, Africa, Asia and even in New Zealand. Sandeman brand was registered as a trademark in 1877 (the first registration of trade marks), making it one of the oldest in the world. The first agent was appointed in 1903, and by 1914 the brand advertised all over the world wide network of sales agents Sandeman wines.
In 1928, George Brown created the image of Don. Dressed in a long black cloak Spanish caballero and wide-brimmed hat, with a red wine in the glass, Don appeared on a bottle of port Sandeman. This powerful image has become an integral part of the label and advertising since the early 1930s.
